1. What is art? Beginning of semester answer: "Art is whatever the artist makes it. I can decide/define what art is whenever I see it." End of semester answer: "Art is an expression of emotions or ideas that can be perceived with any or all of the senses." While very different in wording my two answers are relatively the same in meaning, that art is whatever anyone says it is, and it's different for everyone. Not to sound too 'hipster' but one cannot define art as any one thing or set of things. While people thing art is restricted to a visual, art can actually be a trigger for any of the 5 senses, whether is be sound, smell, touch, or even taste.
4. What are some reasons why artists make art? Beginning of semester answer: "To convey passion or emotions or for fun or business" End of semester answer: "Mainly inspiration. When you see something that inspires you, you want to stem off of that and form the idea into a personal creation." I believe that at the beginning of the semester I gave a bit more of a generalization, whereas at the end of the semester my answer was aimed more towards a personal viewpoint. At the beginning of the semester I had listed some reasons why an artist would be required to make art but not what motivates them to do it.
2. List some reasons that an artist would need to use observation when making artwork. Beginning of semester answer: "Drawing landscape for example, one would need to observe textures and colors to accurately transfer those natural traits of a landscape scene." End of semester answer: "to use landscape or city scape as a background or inspiration." So as one can see, my answer on this question was pretty adamant throughout the semester. Observation can also be directly connected to inspiration, if you see something and think it might be useful in your piece.
7. What is the point of this class? What do you think you'll get out of it? Beginning of semester answer: "This class is to help me be a better artist and sharpen my artistic skills." End of semester answer: "To help further understand and expand my artistic skills. I think I got exactly that." For this question I do not see why my answer should be any different than the day I walked into that class. By looking at both answers one can see that I got what I said I would.
